Therapy Approaches
Person-centerered therapy: a nonjudgmental and passive approach when the clinician creates a safe space, as a way to allow the client to feel comfortable and courageous enough to discuss their own reality-whatever that looks like.
Psychodynamic theory: delving deeper into one’s family of origin, beliefs, and relationship patterns with yourself and others. As the layers of the onion are peeled during the span of our relationship, the hope is to reach a greater understanding of yourself, as a means for developing a healthier relationship with yourself and others.
Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT): we can allow our thoughts and feelings to be present, without trying to judge or control them. Tolerating discomfort is a skill that can be taught, learned, and practiced.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): our thoughts and beliefs can impact how we view ourselves/others. The purpose is to learn strategies to challenge or reframe unhelpful thoughts or beliefs that may not be in our consciousness.
Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT): a mindfulness approach that assists with reducing the intensity of one’s emotions ; the 4 key skills learned here include: 1)Mindfulness, 2)Distress tolerance, 3)Emotion regulation, and 4)Interpersonal effectiveness.
Narrative therapy: a form of talk therapy that assists with rescripting one’s narrative(s) that may be unhelpful for shaping one’s identity or narrative of themselves. The purpose is to create a more empowered way to view one’s identity and journey through life’s twists and turns.
Somatic experiencing: a means to increase the mind-body connection; our traumas can lie dormant in the body if they are not worked out through different variations of movement
Psychedelic-friendly therapist: I have collaborated with psychedelic-assisted clinicians who have provided the background and processes of TMS and ketamine-assisted therapies. These treatments can assist with anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, etc. I have also worked with clients who have received these recurring treatments, coinciding psychotherapy, and can vouch for seeing such positive results. I promote these treatments, along with other holistic treatments.
