Therapy Approaches

Therapeutic rapport is something that is felt once you can feel comfortable enough to let go, and have the courage to be vulnerable with yourself in the therapeutic space. There is no time limit on how long this can take, and I empathize with the idea that trust is earned. I will use non-direct questioning initially, and as we get to know each other better, I enjoy using humor, metaphors, and direct challenging.

My go-to approach is psychodynamic theory: delving deeper into one’s family of origin, beliefs, and relationship patterns with yourself and others. As the layers of the onion are peeled during the span of our relationship, the hope is to reach a greater understanding of yourself, as a means for developing a healthier relationship with yourself and others. This understanding can also empower the ability to rewrite the script of your life.

Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT): we can allow our thoughts and feelings to be present, without trying to judge or control them. Tolerating discomfort is a skill that can be taught, learned, and practiced.

I also like to incorporate the following approaches:

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT)
